About Kate

Every couple is unique!  My goal is to capture that uniqueness into timeless memories that tell the intimate story of your love and life together.  I strive to capture emotion and bring out personalities with a blend of photojournalism and classic portraiture.  I am passionate about my work and use a warm personal style to provide you with beautiful images to enjoy for years to come.

“Kate photographed our wedding just over a year ago and my husband and I couldn’t be happier with her friendliness, professionalism, and the amazing photos we got from her! Every step of the process was smooth, communication was very easy and Kate made sure to get all the shots we wanted and had lots of great ideas for shots we wouldn’t have thought of ourselves. She was very good at making sure that we got all of our important shots, kept us on track with our wedding schedule, but was not at all pushy or overbearing about it. She really made sure to get all the traditional family photos, but also gave us wonderful artsy photos that highlighted the unique details of our wedding and venue. We got a package deal from Kate including a bridal shoot before the wedding, the wedding day, and a honeymoon shoot. I would highly recommend the bridal shoot just as a way of getting comfortable in front of the camera and comfortable with taking direction. I loved that we had her come along for a day of our honeymoon (which was local) because at that point, after the wedding, we were much more rested and relaxed and it was just plain fun. We ended up with a lot of amazing shots and looking back, I am so incredibly glad we decided to go with Kate. We felt we got really great value for our money, pricing on our package was very competitive and we got great quality shots without blowing our wedding budget. We were so happy with our pictures, we recommended Kate for my husband’s sister’s wedding 6 months after our own as well as my own sister’s wedding, 1 year after ours. Every time, she has struck us as being very well prepared and researched for the type of wedding and location (we all had very different wedding styles). Overall, 4 thumbs up (my husbands and mine!) for Kate!”

“Seriously, my wife and I almost killed each other choosing a photographer. She wanted someone who took “artsy” type shots with a more photojournalist-type feel, while I wanted someone who took more traditional pictures. Everyone we interviewed was either too crazy for me or “not talented” enough for my wife (yes, she is difficult to please to this day). Kate was the PERFECT solution. When we checked out her portfolio she seemed to have a good mix of the unique photos my wife was looking to show off to friends and the timeless photos I wanted to put on our mantle to show our family. That said, when we got together with Kate for an initial meeting she exceeded our expectations by actually listening to what both of us wanted and following up by doing a ridiculously good job trying to make both of us happy. And when we got our pictures after the wedding we were thrilled. Look, I’m sure lots of people write generic reviews about how “great” their photographer was, but there truly are few professionals who deliver both extremely high quality work and the excellent personal service that Kate provides (and at a hell of a price – waaaay cheaper than every other photographer we looked at who appeared to offer similar quality). On top of being very good at what she does, she was also a joy to be around. Can’t say enough good things. Kate – you are awesome and thanks again!”

“Kate shot my wedding at the Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis, MD. She was recommended to me by a family member and was more than I could have ever asked for. She was very professional and unobtrusive while being fun, friendly, and capturing everything I wanted as well as amazing photos I never knew I wanted! Her kindness, humor, and laid back demeanor made my husband and I feel comfortable in front of the camera and relax and have fun on a day that can be very stressful. Kate’s style is a perfect blend of artistic/photojournalistic photography with classic/traditional photography, which is very hard to find. I loved them all, but the photojournalistic photos were some of my favorites while the more classic shots were huge hits with our parents and grandparents! I think by covering both bases, Kate ensures everyone will love the photos and every couple will have a wide variety of timeless photos. I have since recommended Kate to many friends and everyone who hired her absolutely loved her and her photos!”

“We used Kate as our wedding photographer 2 years ago, and we love our pictures! Kate takes great traditional wedding photos, as well as fun, artistic ones. Plus, she’s very organized, friendly, professional, and fun to work with. We had our wedding reception outdoors at a pretty large meadow/horse racing farm. Kate scouted the location beforehand, and she took us to parts of our venue that I didn’t even know about for amazing pictures that are some of our favorites. She also has great ideas for pictures and worked with me to replicate ones that I wanted. In addition, Kate is a good value. I was worried that I would never find a good photographer in our budget, and then I found Kate. We were able to get a great package for our rehearsal dinner and wedding day with her. Her prices are competitive and she is an amazing photographer. (I’m surprised that she’s not more expensive.) I highly recommend Kate Smith Photography to anyone considering her. If you want to have fun with your photographer, be able to feel relaxed in front of the camera, and have beautiful wedding pictures, she’s the one to hire.”
